Hi, I’m traci burg, msw, lswaic, MHP
I am a licensed therapist in Washington state, where I began my clinical practice in 2021. I have worked individuals, children, and families since 2016.
I grew up in rural Washington state. As a child I dreamed of going to college and building a solid career where I could help others. Living in poverty this dream did not seem attainable; then as a teen I experienced homelessness. Despite these adverse experiences I attended running start and got some college credits under my belt before being swept away by life and disengaging my dreams of college. At the age of 33, I found myself as a single parent struggling to find my purpose, so I decided to try college again. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Washington and then a Master’s Degree in Social Work, also from the University of Washington.
Recently I have expanded my practice. In addition to my professional training, I bring lived experience as a fat identified person who has undergone significant weight loss using GLP-1 medication. This intersection of clinical practice and lived experience informs my interest in the often overlooked mental health needs of people experiencing rapid body change, including identity disorientation, body dysmorphia, and shifts in belonging and self concept.
Throughout my practice, I approach mental health treatment with nuance rather than prescription, emphasizing ethical care, and personal agency.
I take a holistic and strengths based approach. Additionally, my work is grounded in autonomy affirming, body trust centered approach that supports individuals navigating body image, identity, and the psychological impact of living in highly medicalized and appearance driven systems.
